AERO PRESS
Always at the hand
Perhaps the youngest method of coffee preparation and the most recent innovation in the coffee world known as AeroPress was created by Alan Adler, the founder of the “Aerobie” Company, in 2005.
The manufacturer describes this device as a manual Espresso coffee maker, but the result is more reminiscent of French Press or Drip Brew coffee.
The AeroPress consists of two tubes attached to each other that act as a piston. After being steeped in hot water for a few seconds in the outer cylinder, the coffee is pushed out by the piston, passing through a paper or metal filter. The coffee is immediately “squeezed” into the cup. In this case, the necessary pressure is provided by the strength of the maker’s hand.
The operation of the AeroPress resembles a medical syringe, when the corresponding liquid is pushed out of it when the piston is pressed.
The first AeroPresses were made from a material called “Polycarbonate”. However, starting from 2009, the manufacturer replaced the aforementioned material with “Copolyester”, which, unlike polycarbonate, does not contain the compound called “Bisphenol A” (BPA), which is dangerous for health.
Due to its easy operation and small size, the AeroPress is particularly convenient to use in the field and when traveling. That is why AeroPress is currently spreading rapidly all over the world.
In addition to the traditional use, inventive baristas have found another way to use the AeroPress, the so-called “Inverted Brewing”, when the device is used not to push the finished brew out, but to pull it in.

- Pour the ground coffee into the cylinder
- Add hot water
- Carefully insert the piston into the cylinder
- Wait 10-15 seconds
- Remove the coffee maker from the stand
- Keep the coffee maker on the cup
- Press the piston firmly
- Serve the finished drink
