K-CUP / SINGLE SERVE

Unique pleasure

DESCRIPTION

The “K-Cup” name is a shortened form of “Keurig Cup.” Ground coffee for a single cup is packaged in cup-shaped capsules. These capsules fit into automatic machines to brew one cup of coffee at a time. That’s why the method and machines are called “Single Serve.” Keurig, an American company, introduced this technology in 1997, and it’s now globally recognized as the K-Cup system.

In the 1990s, John Sylvan and Peter Dragon, founders of Keurig, wanted to solve a common office problem: large pots of coffee grew stale and bitter. After years of testing and negotiations, Green Mountain, another American coffee company, packaged its coffee in Keurig capsules in 1997. The following year, Keurig launched its first coffee maker, targeting corporate offices.

Single Serve is a relatively new way of making coffee, which is spreading rapidly all over the world. It has two main features: first, the device makes just one cup of coffee every time. And second, there is no need to wash the coffee maker after making coffee.

Currently, there are many different brands of coffees packaged in the form of K-Cups. Also various flavor additives, such as vanilla, chocolate & hazelnut are available.

A special needle like tube punctures the coffee capsule in the K-Cup device. Hot water flows through the capsule, infusing the coffee grounds. The brewed coffee then pours into the cup below. The used capsule, containing the coffee grounds, is discarded.

There are also special Single Serve capsules made of metal mesh that can be used multiple times. You have to simply add one serving of coffee in it.
