K-CUP / SINGLE SERVE
Unique pleasure
The name “K-Cup” is an English abbreviation. The ground coffee suitable for just one cup is packaged in a special cup-like capsules, which are inserted into the automatic programmable device, making just 1 cup of coffee. Hence the second name of the method and equipment – “Single-Serve”, which means “One Portion”. For the first time, this technology was presented to the market by the American Company “Keurig” in 1997 and is known to the whole world as K-Cup, receiving the first letter of the Company’s name.
In the 1990s, the founders of the Keurig Company, John Sylvan and Peter Dragon, wanted to solve a very common problem: in offices, coffee was made in large quantities, then aged in the kettle, losing its taste and becoming bitter. After many years of testing and negotiations, in 1997, another American coffee company named “Green Mountain” packaged its coffee with Keurig capsules. And in 1998, the Keurig Company launched its first coffee maker, targeting the Corporate coffee market.
This is a relatively new way of making coffee, which is spreading rapidly all over the world. It has two main features: first, the device makes just one cup of coffee every time without making extra cups. And second, there is no need to wash the coffee maker after making coffee.
Currently, there are many different brands of coffee packaged in the form of K-Cup capsules with various flavor additives, from vanilla to chocolate.
The coffee capsule placed in the special chamber of the K-Cup device is pierced by a special tube of the device, which looks like a needle. Hot water, passing through the coffee in the capsule, infuses it and pours the resulting coffee into the cup placed at the bottom of the machine. The coffee grounds remain in the capsule and are thrown away with it.
There are also special capsules made of metal mesh that can be used multiple times in these types of coffee makers, simply by adding one serving of coffee in it.
- Choose the coffee with the preferred taste;
- Place the capsule in the special compartment in the upper part of the coffee maker and close the lid;
- Place the cup in the lower part of the coffee maker;
- Turn on the coffee maker and select the appropriate program, if available;
- After making coffee, turn off the coffee maker and discard the capsule filled with sediment;
- Enjoy the coffee, adding different creams if desired.
